Bousaam Pineapples is owned and managed by Regardo Müller and Karel de Haas.
Our cultivar
The scientific name for pineapple is Ananas Cosmosus, a member of the
Bromeliaceae family. Bousaam Pineapples primarily farms with the cultivar Queen
Victoria, also known as “baby pines”. The Queen Pineapple is very popular,
sweeter and more palatable to be eaten fresh than some other cultivars. The
Queen Pineapple has a sweet yellow flesh with a high sugar content and thorny
leaves.
About the farm
Bousaam farm is located north of Durban and Richardsbay, in KwaZulu Natal,
South Africa.
The farm is set in a tranquil and beautiful country area,
sheltered by mountains with rich, deep soil that produces healthy fruit.
The conditions are perfectly, naturally designed to produce the tastiest
pineapples, with mild winters and hot, African summers which wake and activate
the sugar, creating sweet fruit.
Pineapples are rotated on a 15 year soil resting cycle, which contributes to our
quality and immaculate taste. This long rotation allows the soil to regenerate
itself to such an extent that allows us to eliminate the use of soil fumigants
and limits the reliance on artificial fertilisers, which lessens the impact of
our farming operations on the environment.
